2017 What will the Fourth Year Bring?

In 2017, we continue our standing programs, our community and dancer development projects and we also focus on collaborating with other community organizations, developing as a non-profit and supporting Cultural Artists in New Orleans.  Stay tuned to see how that unfolds.

Rueda de Casino Workshops

April 11, 2017  Rolletaso!  As part of Professor Trask's class in Caribbean Venacular and Social dance, Bookoo Rueda is teaching dance majors and baseball players Rueda de Casino at Tulane University.

International Rueda de Casino Flash Mob Day

April 1, 2017  A Wandering Wheel Dancers came together along side of the World Rhythms festival in Louis Armstrong Park to enjoy the sun and Spring weather.  They moved throughout the park dancing and talking to curious passerbys about Cuban dance and Rueda de Casino.

Top Taco New Orleans

March 23, 2017  Tequila, Tacos, One Heart Nola  Bookoo Rueda joins Beam Sunatory and Top Taco New Orleans to liven up the dance floor and engage the crowd as part of the festival held to raise funds for One Heart NOLA.


La Noche Caliente

March 18, 2017  A Hot Night of Cuban Music & Dancing  What started as a one time performance of a tribute to Celia Cruz has now become New Orleans' newest Latin music sensation, Muevelo! That means "Move It" in Spanish. Lead singer Margie Perez and saxophonist Brent Rose lead a talented ensemble of musicians and vocalists that takes you on a musical journey to Cuba. Dancers wanted!

The San Francisco Salsa Rueda Festival 2017

February 17, 2017 New Orleans represented at the largest Cuban dance festival in the US.  We hosted a Southern mixer for Cuban dance groups in the South (plus a few, including Rumbanana!).  4 days of workshops, 3 nights of dancing, 2 mishaps, 1 Rueda Toast and 0 sleep.  We survived!

French American Dance Exchange

February 3, 2017 Still Got That Swing!  In collaboration with Dance Quarter, we welcomed 40+ Swing and Casino dancers to New Orleans from France for a weekend of dance workshops exploring Swing, Balboa, Rueda de Casino, and Jazz Roots.


Visiting Instructor - Mike Eskeldson

January 21, 2017  Una Bulla!  Bookoo Rueda hosts Mike Eskeldson, director of Rumbanana to train the Bookoo Rueda team as part of the dancer development program.  Mike also lead a mixer or mini-workshop sponsored by BKR at NOLA CasinoSon's Noche Cubano.

The Rueda Jazz Project

Bookoo Rueda was founded in 2014 on a dare.  That dare became a mission.  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization connecting people, communities, and cultures through dance.  We take dance out of the studio and into the community.
